Vehicle Reservation Program Now Available at Two Locations: Alexander Springs and Silver Glen Springs Recreation Areas

Successful Vehicle Reservation Program at Silver Glen Springs Prompts Expansion to Include Alexander Springs for an Unbeatable Summer Adventure in the Ocala National Forest

Ocala, FL (March 11, 2023) — The US Forest Service is making summer outings a breeze with the expansion of its vehicle reservation program to the picturesque Alexander Springs Recreation Area. Following the success at Silver Glen Springs last year, this move ensures a smoother experience for visitors and a more enjoyable environment for all.

As crowds flock to these popular natural springs each year, the joy of a day in the great outdoors can often be overshadowed by long waits and congestion when parks reach capacity. The management team, responding to visitor feedback, is extending the convenience of their vehicle reservation program to Alexander Springs, promising a more laid-back and hassle-free adventure.

Starting this Memorial Day weekend, visitors can purchase a vehicle reservation in advance for both Silver Glen Springs and Alexander Springs. It's not just about securing your spot; it's about having the flexibility to come and go as you please, making the most of your time at the crystal-blue natural springs.

"Our team is thrilled about this expansion. We want our visitors to focus on enjoying their day with us, not on waiting in lines. It's about creating a space where everyone can unwind and connect with the spectacular natural attractions," shared District Ranger Carrie Sekerak, CWB of the US Forest Service in Ocala National Forest.

The benefits extend beyond convenience; it's also about conservation. By managing the number of visitors, we are taking steps to preserve the natural beauty of both Silver Glen Springs and Alexander Springs — a seemingly small change with a big impact.

"Imagine a summer day where you can enjoy the serenity of these stunning locations without the stress and uncertainty of not knowing whether or not the recreation area will reach capacity before your arrival. Our vehicle reservation program is about making outdoor adventures more peaceful, sustainable and accessible," added Sekerak.

Vehicle reservations for both locations are $20 per vehicle and are available for purchase at www.ReserveOcala.com up to 14 days in advance. Vehicle reservations will only be required on weekends and holidays throughout the summer, starting on Memorial Day weekend, May 25, through Labor Day, September 2. Admission fees are in addition to vehicle reservation fees. Vehicle reservations are not required on weekdays and remain first come, first served.

The US Forest Service partners with the concessioner, Naventure, to oversee visitor management services in the Ocala National Forest, the southernmost and oldest national forest east of the Mississippi River, and home to two of the most popular natural springs attractions — Alexander Springs and Silver Glen Springs.

  • Alexander Springs Campground & Recreation Area: The 300 ft wide freshwater spring that gushes approximately 70 million gallons of water per day, maintains a constant 72 degrees fahrenheit and is extraordinarily clear with a sandy bottom. Visitors can enjoy swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving year-round in the crystalline waters as well as camping, paddling, hiking, birding and wildlife viewing. Alexander Springs Recreation Area is located in the Ocala National Forest approximately 6 miles northeast of the intersection of State Road 40 and County Road 445.

  • Silver Glen Springs Recreation Area: The spring releases 65 million gallons of fresh water per day creating a lush subtropical forest ecosystem that feeds the nearby Lake George. Visitors can enjoy swimming, picnicking and paddling. Snorkeling is permitted but scuba diving is not allowed. There are no overnight camping facilities. The seven-acre Silver Glen Springs Recreation Area is located on the eastern edge of the Ocala National Forest off State Road 19 approximately 6 miles north of the intersection of State Roads 40 and 19.
