TITLE: Water Safety Supervisor
LOCATION: Sliding Rock
REPORTS TO: Sliding Rock Operations Manager
SUPERVISES: Sliding Rock Staff
JOB TYPE: Seasonal, May through Labor Day
SCHEDULE: Up to 40 hours per week, working weekends and holidays as needed.
AVAILABILITY: Must be available to work Saturday - Wednesday
COMPENSATION: $20/hour plus end-of-season bonus (when full season is completed) and paid sick leave

POSITION SUMMARY

This supervisory position provides hands-on support for water operations at Sliding Rock, ensuring the highest standards of vigilance, emergency preparedness, and risk management. This position works designated shifts, alongside the water staff, while coordinating daily rotations, training programs, emergency response protocols, and equipment readiness. This position works collaboratively with the Gatehouse Supervisor and reports to the Sliding Rock Operations Manager.

I. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality risk management to all visitors

  • Ensure water staff are on time and ready for the day

  • Coordinate daily water staff rotations, ensuring timely and appropriate coverage of all zones

  • Monitor water staff throughout the day to ensure proper positioning and active scanning

  • Serve as a lead emergency responder in the event of an emergency

  • Complete all incident reports and ensure accurate documentation of incidents and accidents

  • Review incident reports for completeness and clarity

  • Facilitate monthly in-service training to reinforce emergency response protocols and water rescue skills

  • Ensure water equipment and supplies (rescue tubes, first aid kits, backboards, etc.) are properly stocked and in working condition

  • Report any missing, damaged, or low-supply items to Sliding Rock Operations Manager within 24 hours

  • Coordinate staff breaks, lunches, and rotation schedules

Supervisory & Support Responsibilities:

  • Lead by example and provide support and guidance to water staff

  • Assist in training new employees in water safety procedures and Sliding Rock operations

  • Provide staff with ongoing mentorship and support to maintain high operational standards

  • Foster clear and open communication between staff and management

  • Monitor adherence to operational procedures and safety standards

  • Respond to and document incidents according to protocol

  • Address operational issues and communication needs to Sliding Rock Operations Manager

  • Maintain open communication with Naventure administrative staff

  • Other related duties as assigned

II. QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

Required:

  • Experience in water recreation environment

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to remain calm and helpful during high-volume periods

  • Must possess current CPR and Wilderness First Aid (WFA) certification by start date (training will be provided during mandatory training dates)

  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and work outdoors in varying weather conditions

  • Must commit to full season (Memorial Day through Labor Day) to be eligible for end-of-season bonus

  • Must attend mandatory training dates:

    • Friday May 8, 6pm-9:30pm (CPR training)

    • Saturday May 9, 8am-5pm (WFA training)

    • Sunday May 10, 8am-5pm (WFA training)

    • Saturday May 16, 9am-5pm (On-site training)

    • Sunday May 17, 9am-5pm (On-site training)

Preferred:

  • Experience using Square or similar POS technology

  • Supervising diverse teams in remote environments

III. WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Outdoor Work: The role involves working outdoors in all weather conditions in a high-volume natural recreation area for extended periods of time.

  • Physical Demands: The role requires physical stamina and the ability to work on your feet for extended periods. Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces including rock, mud, leaves and wet surfaces, as well as bend, stoop, and lift as needed. Comfort working in and around water is essential.

  • Work Hours/Schedule: Rotating shifts including weekends and holidays. Peak season can mean managing large crowds during hot summer days. Other duties and/or alternate schedules may be assigned depending on operational need.
